WEEK #4 Beg-A-Thon Update

These ladies thought it was weird that I took a photo of the official crunch of the Portland Timbers. Do they not understand obsessive documentation?

Very quick update as I am so busy I am moving at the speed of light. You can’t even see me right now. So maybe faster than the speed of light? Whatever, you science nerd pedants.

I am going to be taking a nice long computer free weekend and going to do some fun things so I have been cramming to get my Write-A-Thon goals completed.

Here is it:

Words written: 3263 (goal 3000 per week)
Stories submitted: 1 (goal 1 during the WAT; this is my second)

You can still give money if you feel left out. I’m very close to my goal so a couple bucks could push me over the top.

Here are all the instructions for donating or you can go directly to my donation page.

And a super huge thanks everyone who made a contribution.

Club Seats

Stop me if you heard this one: I was going to write a good post but instead I only have time for this really quick single-buttocked version. Plus I think only 2 of my loyal readers care about this stuff.

Timbers ticket partner and I talked about possibly upgrading to the club seats. The section is sold out but we could get on the waiting list.

First we wanted to sit in those seats for a game to see what it was like. Last week the Timbers played an exhibition game with Club America which is a hugely popular team that plays in Mexico City.

This game was outside our regular season tickets so we bought club seats.

Check out these condiments!

Ooh! Timbers have an official cocktail?

Watch Darlington Nagbe’s goal again on the jumboscreen? Yes please. (If you haven’t seen it, watch here. Even if you don’t like soccer. It only takes a minute and it’s worth it.)

Looking across the field at our seats.

They were nice seats. They were closer to the field than the ones we have and the seats are roomier. They have free food. These were the choices: hot dogs, Cracker Jack, Red Ropes, peanuts. Maybe something else I’m forgetting. Of course, FREE! After our pre-game pizza we ate that crap. I said, “I’m not sure this is such a great idea if we’re just gorging on junk.”

They were good seats but not twice the money good seats.

We are looking forward to getting back to Section 117 for today’s big game against Seattle. #RCTID

Beg-A-Thon Update: Week #3

First dahlia of the season! I should probably take another photo in a few hours to make it prettier but I can’t plan my entire evening around my dahlia.

Here’s the Week #3 Write-A-Thon Results

Words Written: 3496 (goal 3000/week)
Stories Submitted: 0 (goal 1 during the WAT which I did last week)

The coming week is crazy busy. I’m not sure how I’m going to make my goal but I’ll do my best.

And special message for Turdpress: screw you you needy, demanding crapbag. If I one opportunity to use time travel and only one, of all things I could choose to do, I would go back and NOT PICK YOU.

Attack of the Peas

If you’re looking at your current pea crop and sad that it isn’t frightening you with its productivity, let me tell you about the seeds I used: Veseys. I can’t remember which one I bought but they all look good. There were so many seeds I split them with co-worker and he’s been harvesting crates of peas, too.

Poor Parking

Look how this dipwit parked in front my house. No, this person was not visiting me.

I think my annoyance was out of proportion with the seriousness of the crime. It’s not like I couldn’t pull into my driveway.

But there was tons and tons of curb space available that did not partially block my driveway and the car was there for several hours. It had a big laminated sign taped to the driver’s side door that was one of those long affirmations about success and confidence that suggest to me, the driver was probably unstable.

I was irritated enough that I thought about knocking on neighbors’ doors to ask if that was their visitor and could they please move to a better spot. But then *I* would be that crazy neighbor having a snit fit when the car wasn’t hurting anyone and I’d look like an ass to the neighbor and the guest and even if they moved the car it wouldn’t be satisfying.

Then I thought about writing a note but I didn’t want to end up on passiveaggressivenotes.com. But then I thought I could take a photo and turn myself in to passiveagressivenotes.com because *that* would be satisfying.

While I was exercising I was trying to compose the perfect note with just the right mix of batshit insanity and goofy grammar. Could I work in an unnecessary apostrophe s? What color Sharpie would best get my point across?

Sadly, the car was gone before I could come up with something good.

Berries!

This was yesterday’s pickings. This is about twice what I picked on Friday. Tons more out there. The raspberries like to hide. Every time I looked back at the part I just picked I’d see another handful.

The first post-4th of July summer nice day commute was only 6 minutes short of my all time record of 82 minutes. (11 miles). This is not a record I’m seeking to break.

Two Breakfasts

Orange juice, mango, garden-fresh raspberries, frozen strawberries and blueberries.

Mountain of blueberry buttermilk pancakes, sausages.

Try to guess which was mine.

I’ve been busting ass all weekend so today was going to be my lazy day. Except I’ve suddenly gone mad about my hedge in the backyard with the berry vines growing in it. I’ve got jeans and long sleeves on and I’m going to get the hedge hog and go crazy on it before it gets too hot.

Happy 4th of July!

Beg-A-Thon Week #2 Update

Words written: 5450 (goal 3000)
Stories submitted: 1 (goal 1 during the write-a-thon)

Yeah, I still look like an over-achiever. Believe me I have had some pitiful weeks of writing this year. I made-up for my poor showing at the beginning of June so I could hit that goal. And I’m going to submit at least one more story during the write-a-thon, maybe two if I get crazy.

Actually, I working like a maniac now because after this weekend the rest of the month is insanely busy so I’m trying to get the work done while I can.

It’s not too late to make a donation. Even $5 would be hugely appreciated. I’ve got some donations but I still don’t even have my first $100 to match.

Here are all the instructions for donating or you can go directly to my donation page.

Thanks everyone who made a contribution.

Jeld-Wen Field. I mistype that as Jelf-Wen every time. I’m just going to start calling it that.

Tonight is the first of six home games this month. SIX! Half of those are exhibition games and to be honest, I don’t understand the point of so many exhibition games in the middle of MLS season. But I’m going to show up and eat my pizza and drink my beer and not complain.

I did not plan to make a pie this weekend. In fact, I was planning to make lemon buttermilk ice cream and exploit the giant bag of lemons we were gifted with this week.

However I saw this 10 minute lime cracker pie. I still had limes and heavy cream leftover from previous pie making adventures. I didn’t have crackers but one of the comments mentioned graham cracker crust and I still have graham crackers from an earlier pie. Let me tell you, this thing is so sweet it will put hair on your chest. I think the graham cracker crust is too much. I think it would work better with the crackers. And I might just try it when we visit the family next month.

That’s it for now. I need to weed and bathe and nap and get ready for my game tonight. Timbers!

Beg-A-Thon Week #1 Results

I ran out of See’s candy and I don’t want to drive all the way to the mall for just that one thing. I found this at the grocery store and it is terrific. I let Bob try it but then I had to hide it from him.

I ended up writing my face off today and I need to go to bed so my Write-a-thon Week #1 (which ended yesterday) results will be brief.

Words written: 6249 (goal 3000/wk)
New Stories Submitted: 0 (goal 1 during the write-a-thon)

I know it looks like I’m being an overachiever here. I make monthly goals, too, and I’ve been behind on my June goal so I had to make it up. Plus I have two stories that are this close to going out the door and I was really pouring it on to try to get those finished.

If you’d like to contribute the info is here: Clarion West Write-A-Thon 2011 and here’s the direct link to sponsor me.

Today’s Random Notes

Peas

All the time I’m thinking of ideas to write better posts here. But it always seems like something I’ll have more time for next week.

Here’s another phone-er-in-er.

Apples

Way back in March I bought a couple of pairs of summery slacks and blouses for the office. Anticipating the warmer weather. Ha ha.

Last week was the first time I wore the blouses. One of them is cute but the other one is a mystery.

Maybe someone punk’d me and hid it in my closet. I couldn’t possibly have bought it on purpose.

It’s a medium-ugly pattern but the cut is ridiculous. The bottom part poofs out so that it looks like I spent the last three weeks training for a cheeseburger eating contest. And the sleeves are cut funny so that it looks like I have Pillsbury Doughboy arms.

I don’t have very many tops so I’ll probably wear it again, but it’s definitely getting burned at the end of the summer.

Raspberries

Have you ever watched rugby? I mean, if you’re not a rugby fan.

They’re really burly guys in tight shorts, I bet I could get into it if I had time for more sports.

I don’t but I’ve been seeing bits of pieces of games. It’s a crazy sport.

They throw the ball back and forth and run around and then do a tackle and make a giant dogpile. Why do you need that many guys all piled up? A few of the other guys stand around and finally the ball pops out of the dogpile and the rest of the guys start running and tossing it back and forth. Then someone kicks it.

I have no idea what’s happening but it looks really fun.

Tomorrow I will have a write-a-thon update.
