Writing
Writing is not the endless joyous romp through a daisy-strewn field that people would have you believe. I'm still flogging at it with microscopic success.
I sold one story Estelle Makes the Casino Run in 2010 bringing my total to two stories sold. My career inches forward. If that even counts as an inch. I'm still sending stuff out.
My project for 2011 is to write another novel. It went so well the last time. I didn't realize that was so long ago. (1999). We'll see how I do. I'm giving it a shot.
Meanwhile, here's this year's holiday story (note: without holiday theme): Territorial. I made it even shorter than last year. Give it a look. It's a super insidery look at Tribes and government bureaucracy.
2010 Favorites
All my books read in 2010 are here. I read seven books with 600 or more pages. I realize there's no medal for that but I think there should be. I liked The Passage by Justin Cronin (post-apocalyptic vampires), Blackout and All Clear (WWII time travel, it's really just one long book, read them together) by Connie Willis, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (post-apocalyptic YA), Song of Fire and Ice series by George RR Martin (swords, battles, Kings and lots of dying) first three books (2900pp right there). TV series on HBO in 2011. Woo.
For movies I can't even think of any movies I saw except for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Narnia) and I remember that because I saw it last week. It's mostly dumb but I liked it. Bob and I saw Crazy Heart (Jeff Bridges as a run down country singer) together and we liked that one.
Shows: Sons of Anarchy is the best show on TV. I watched The Walking Dead and when they says it's for mature audiences only, I guess they don't mean me because I have to whimper behind a pillow the entire time. If I've learned anything from that show it's that I don't want to survive a zombie apocalypse. Bob and I still like Mad Men. And Bob discovered That Metal Show on VH1 Classic and it's my new favorite.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
