Blink

Amsterdam, March 2010

The power went out this morning. I guess it’s never going to stop raining or storming here. At least it was nice in February.

I saw my clock blinking so I got up and checked the real time and set my cellphone alarm.

I had the clock on the microwave set so that I knew the exact time by the minute that I needed to leave to catch my bus. This morning I was at a loss.

I guessed but guessed early and had to huddle under the shelter until the bus arrived.

I’ve reset it but I think it will be another couple trips before I have it perfected.

I’ve been there! Isn’t that right where the sex museum is? Or maybe all Amsterdam centers look the same. Or maybe all Amsterdam centers have sex museums.

Sorry about the clock troubles. What about batteries in the clocks, so it keeps the time when the power goes out?

I’ve been there too. Or a street just like it. A lot of them look the same in Amsterdam, Lor’s right.

I have never been fortunate enough to live in a place where you could actually set your watch according to public transit. European trains, sure, but American buses are often variable.

Well, if I’d guessed, I would have huddled in the rain while watching my bus pull away. So that’s something at least.
