78 Lanes of Bowling Action!

Bringing On The Hottie

My Uncle Barry had his 70th birthday bash in Reno in May, and while we were there my cousin Jeff got married and there was a giant bowling championship at the National Bowling Stadium which features 78 lanes of bowling. It was an amazing weekend. I learned that drinking boxed wine after bedtime is a bad idea; Reno weddings are cool and 78 lanes worth of bowling is hypnotizing.

New cousin-in-law bride Meredith rallied the troops (okay, Kathy and Me and friend Jenny) for a Rock of Ages evening featuring Def Leppard and Renegade openers Styx. Styx was fabulous. It was like all my favorite skating rink songs crammed into one set with flashing lights and synchronized hair-flipping. Def Leppard didn't play our favorite songs so we left early and beat the rush out of the parking lot and fulfilled my other goal of the evening which was to be in bed by 11pm.

Since I'm talking about music, I moved my 07 music picks to this portion of the newsletter for thematic grouping since the last page is too long. Every year I swear I'm going to make this newsletter shorter and then I don't. Sorry.

Music: I'm so old. I read Fargo Rock City by Chuck Klosterman which is the hairband history/memoir that I should have written and I've been pulling out all my dusty hairband records for a little headbanging trip down memory lane. I heard some L.A. Guns, Cocked and Loaded; Guns N'Roses, Appetite for Destruction; and my Rhino Records Heavy Metal Hits of the '80's volumes 1 through 4.  Then I pulled out the photo album and enjoyed the memories from when Grock discovered fire and we roasted a mastodon that he and the other cavemen killed with rocks.
