"If You're Going to Make Pie Crust, You Have to Be Fearless."

My Choices for 2000:

Movies: The Cup (Tibetan monks and World Cup Soccer - all they need is Star Wars and this would be the ultimate godhead Pam movie of all time.), Return to Me (prototype chick movie!), High Fidelity (great book and who doesn't love John Cusack?), The Limey (Steven Soderbergh, directorgod), Three Kings (brilliant movie), Titan A.E. (tanked but I loved it) Almost Famous (Cameron Crowe, directorgod), The Virgin Suicides (on video, worth your time, esp for the late 70's dance scene. If they would have played Moody Blues, Knights in White Satin song I would have expired on the spot.)

We're in Paris, our dream.

Books: Probably this year's winner is Nicola Barker for Wide Open which won some sort of big money book prize in Great Britain. It's really out there, but I liked it a lot. I think Dave Eggers, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius is brilliant for the first 100 pages but kind of disintegrates into a first draft by the end. Janette Turner Hospital, Oyster is about as brilliant as they come about wacky people in the Australian outback was also a major winner. I took Barbara Kingsolver, The Poisonwood Bible to Europe as my "big" book and gobbled it up in 3 days. For bizarre short stories try: George Saunders, CivilWarLand in Bad Decline, Julia Slavin, The Woman Who Cut Off Her Foot at the Maidstone Club, and Stacey Richter, My Date with Satan.

TV: Our rotation is: Friends, Ebert & Roeper and Simpsons. I watch Malcom in the Middle and Xfiles. We just discovered, literally in the last week, the Daily Show. Very funny. Check it out.

Live shows: Gregory Peck one man show, Lou Reed, Matt Groening and Lynda Barry at Evergreen, Kingdome implosion (actually live on tv), Patti Smith, Ira Glass. Can you even believe that for 1 year? Patti and Lou? Gregory Peck in one of his last public performances? Matt godoflife? What a great world.

That's it for 2000. Hope y'all have fun holidays and a crazy new year.

Love you, Pamela
